Year 8 'Draw Something In Your Bedroom' Competition

Pete Scully's drawing of his family's shoes, from his blog.

While I was planning for my Year 8 lesson this week, I came across this blog by a British artist called Pete Scully.

He was born in London, but now lives in California. From his blog, you can see that he draws and sketches almost everywhere he goes. Pete's sketchbook is like a beautiful diary of where he has been and what he has seen.

This module Mr Bird's Year 8 class will be challenged each week to draw an object that is in their bedroom. There will be a prize each week for the best and most interesting artwork.

The objectives of this homework are:
- To practice your observational drawing skills.
- To use your artwork to say something about who you are, where you live, and what you like.

A few hints and tips:
- Pick an interesting object, with some detail to challenge you.
- For example, a pen is a boring object and will make a boring drawing.
- For another example, a trainer is a much more interesting object, with lots of detail to draw (see above).
- Take time over your work- spend at least 30 minutes. An hour would be brilliant.
- Draw nice and big- fill the page so you have room to include the details you can see.
- Remember to use all the right elements in your drawing. you should include lines, tones and texture.
